Tottenham forward Richarlison's proposed move to Vasco da Gama has fallen through amid continued uncertainty over the Brazilian's future. Sources indicate that Spurs had agreed to a fee with the Brazilian club for the 29-year-old, but personal terms became an issue.
The Brazilian transfer window closed on Friday night, leaving Richarlison without a move away from Tottenham. His future had already become uncertain after another proposed transfer fell through on deadline day.
Richarlison and Vasco da Gama transfer
Richarlison was expected to return to Brazil after Tottenham agreed to a fee with Vasco da Gama. However, the two sides were unable to resolve the personal terms, preventing the deal from being completed before the Brazilian transfer window closed.
The forward was also left out of Tottenham's Premier League squad after his proposed £35m move to Everton broke down on deadline day. That transfer collapsed because of a disagreement over personal terms.
BBC Sport reported on Thursday that Richarlison and Tottenham were also involved in a dispute over the remaining nine months of his contract.
Richarlison's future at Tottenham
Richarlison is understood to be considering his options and wants to be released from the remainder of his current deal, which expires next summer. Tottenham, however, has the option to trigger a further 12-month extension.
Tottenham manager Roberto de Zerbi did not provide an update on Richarlison's future during his news conference on Friday. He said he had spoken to the player several times and had tried to convince him to stay.
De Zerbi also said he understood what had happened during the previous 45 days and that he was not frustrated by the situation. He stressed that the decision to leave Richarlison out of the squad had not been his.
Richarlison and De Zerbi's comments
De Zerbi expressed regret that the situation had developed as it did and said the story could have ended differently. He suggested Richarlison could have remained in the squad, stayed at Tottenham, and potentially extended his contract.
The manager described Richarlison as an important player, pointing to his contribution last season. The Brazilian scored 11 Premier League goals and finished as Tottenham's leading scorer in the competition as the club avoided relegation.
At the same time, De Zerbi said the events of the previous 45 days could not be ignored. Richarlison's immediate future therefore remains uncertain after moves to both Everton and Vasco da Gama failed to materialize.
