Borussia Mönchengladbach have parted ways with head coach Eugen Polanski with immediate effect. Assistant coach Tobias Trulsen has also been relieved of his duties after a run of poor results left the club seeking a change.
The decision follows defeats by RB Leipzig and SV Elversberg, before Gladbach suffered a heavy 5-0 loss away to SC Freiburg on Sunday.
Gladbach and Eugen Polanski part ways
Polanski was appointed in November 2025 and spent 29 games in charge of the Fohlen-elf before the club decided to end his tenure. Gladbach confirmed the change after reports earlier in the day suggested that the coach's departure was imminent.
With one Bundesliga game remaining before the international break, Jan-Moritz Lichte will take temporary charge of the team. Gladbach are due to face Mainz in that final match before the break.
Sporting director Rouven Schröder said the club had seen positive signs during pre-season, but the team had failed to produce the results expected in the Bundesliga. He added that the recent performances had led to the decision to dismiss Polanski.

Schröder also paid tribute to Polanski, describing him as a Borussia man through and through, while thanking both him and Trulsen for their commitment to the club.
Polanski himself expressed his disappointment after being dismissed, saying Borussia Mönchengladbach was and would always remain his club. He admitted that the situation was particularly painful because he had wanted to do his best for the team.
The 40-year-old pointed to the changes made during the current season after Gladbach successfully avoided relegation. Despite having high hopes for the campaign, the club failed to achieve the goals they had set.
Gladbach turns to Jan-Moritz Lichte
Jan-Moritz Lichte will take over on an interim basis with Mainz next up for Gladbach before the international break. The club's recent run included losses to RB Leipzig, SV Elversberg, and SC Freiburg.
Polanski said he was sorry that the team had not managed to fulfil its ambitions and expressed hope that Borussia would quickly return to a better path. He also wished the club, the team, and the supporters all the best before thanking them for their shared time.
